Announcing his retirement on Saturday, Mar. 16, Max Unger leaves a big hole in the middle of the Saints offensive line. We take a look at potential replacements.
There has been a lot of subterfuge on the part of the Saints brass in the lead up to center Max Unger announcing his retirement on Saturday, Mar. 16. While the move was a shock to the media and Saints fans, Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis could have known about this since the end of the 2018 Season. And that’s led to some cloak and dagger type sneaking around to make sure the Saints didn’t tip their hand on a new need at center.
It was just interesting to watch all of that play out and then realizing they had pulled one over on everybody. When it was announced that Nick Easton was coming in for a visit, all of the press regarding the visit called him a guard. In high school, college and in the pros up until 2017, he played center.
