Josh McDaniels rejecting the head coaching role in Indianapolis isn’t just the big story of the day – it also has plenty of long-term effects around the NFL.
Here are a few things to take away from the New England offensive coordinator’s decision to remain under Belichick’s leadership:
McDaniels changing his mind about the Colts job came on the same day as the Indianapolis front office making an official announcement welcoming the 45-year old to the franchise. Patriots owner Robert Kraft likely played a role in convincing McDaniels, reportedly “sweetening his contract” to make staying in New England a more attractive option.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Kraft may still harbor a degree of animosity towards the Colts after the DeflateGate controversy that occurred during the 2015 AFC Championship game between New England and Indianapolis.
Fans might expect the Patriots to continue implementing similar offensive tactics in the future with McDaniels’ return to Foxborough.
