New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady showed his support for Malcolm Butler by replying to the cornerback’s statement on Instagram.
Butler’s statement was geared toward showing his respect for the Patriots organization while addressing rumors about his benching during Super Bowl LII. Brady then gave Butler a shoutout in the comments.
“Love you Malcolm,” Brady wrote minutes after Butler published the post. “You are an incredible player and teammate and friend. Always!!!!!!”
Butler’s statement emphasized his respect for Bill Belichick, but refuted media reports he was at a concert or taking part in what Butler categorized as “ridiculous activities.” Brady, no stranger to negative media attention, liked the post before weighing in.
Butler’s comments on Instagram came after his impassioned reaction immediately after the Super Bowl.
“They gave up on me. [expletive]. It is what it is,” Butler told ESPN’s Mike Reiss in an exclusive interview on his way to the team bus. “I don’t know what it was. I guess I wasn’t playing good or they didn’t feel comfortable. I don’t know. But I could have changed that game.”
