The Clippers have waived Jamel Artis

Three days after signing Jamel Artis, the LA Clippers have waived the guard. The team announced the move in a press release earlier today.

Signing Artis never made much sense for the NBA team, which is already overflowing with players; this move was likely always made with the Agua Caliente Clippers in mind. Artis was on an Exhibit 10 deal, meaning he will receive a bonus from the Clippers — likely in excess of a normal G League salary — if he signs with Agua Caliente and stays with the team for at least 60 days. The Clippers get to take a look a player they’re interested in, and Artis is given extra incentive to stay with the franchise.

Artis has bounced around quite a bit in his NBA career thus far. After going undrafted out of Pittsburgh in 2017, he played for the New York Knicks in Summer League before signing a two-way deal with the Orlando Magic. The Magic didn’t see enough to keep him around, leading Artis to play with Cleveland in the 2018 Summer League. He then spent training camp with the Sacramento Kings but was waived, allowing the Clippers to scoop him up for at least the start of the G League season....
