In the latest bit of news that will mean very little come Tuesday, the Sixers have announced the signings of Cory Jefferson and Darin Johnson. To make room on the training camp roster, Philadelphia released Matt Farrell and DJ Hogg, who were officially on the team for just two days. Perhaps foreseeing a similar fate for Jefferson and Johnson, Philadelphia’s social media team didn’t even bother creating a graphic to celebrate the latest arrivals.
As anticipated when they were signed, Farrell and Hogg will be designated as affiliate cuts by the team, with the hopes they sign with the G League and report to Delaware.
Unlike the other guys discussed here, the 6’9” Cory Jefferson actually has some NBA experience, playing a combined 58 games for the Nets and Suns across the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. The former Baylor Bear played overseas the last two years, and appeared in both the Utah and Vegas Summer Leagues for the Spurs this past summer. Most recently, Melbourne United signed Jefferson ahead of their game in Philadelphia against the Sixers; Jefferson’s 2-point, 2-rebound performance apparently caught Elton Brand’s eye....
