After sitting out most of his rookie season with a shoulder injury, Saints linebacker Alex Anzalone is back and working on ‘the little things.’
The Saints had three third round picks in the 2017 NFL Draft. Of course one of them, Alvin Kamara, gets the most attention. And rightfully so. Trey Hendrickson was another one who had a decent rookie campaign and is looking good in the current training camp. The other was linebacker Alex Anzalone.
The former Florida Gator came to the Saints who had full knowledge of a rather extensive injury history in college. But the promise of his talent and football IQ made him look like a bargain in the third round. He was looking solid through four games at weakside linebacker in 2017 before, once again, injuring his shoulder. He spent the rest of the season on injured reserve.
Anzalone is back now, healthy and part of a deeper linebacker group in New Orleans this training camp. But he’s still a young player going into his second season.
