Rob Ryan envisions big things for Redskins defense

Washington Redskins linebackers coach Rob Ryan isn’t afraid to boast about his guys.

Ryan came over this offseason and didn’t waste much time saying the Redskins should have a top-five defense next season.

In a deeper dive from Redskins.com’s Jake Kring-Schreifels, Ryan expanded on these thoughts:

“I think our defense is going to do great and I’m not scared to tell anybody because I believe it. I know we’ve got the players to do great things and I know we’ve got the coaches, too. I know it’s going to be awesome.”

It isn’t hard to see why a defensive coach in Washington might feel this way. The unit was plenty strong last year before the injury bug started hitting. It also seemed to upgrade this offseason with a big name like Landon Collins.

Keep in mind Ryan’s unit gets to play behind a front featuring Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen, so even a loss like Reuben Foster might not hurt as much as some anticipate.
