After losing 43-19 to the New Orleans Saints on Monday, the Redskins desperately need a bounce-back game. Unfortunately for them, they play 3-1 Carolina on Sunday. Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is having a strong season and Carolina has a number of ways it can attack a defense.
Running back Christian McCaffrey already has 521 yards rushing and receiving; receiver Devin Funchess has 28 catches for 238 yards. Washington’s defense will have to do a better job of stopping all the Panthers offensive stars than it did attempting to corral the Saints. And the Redskins will have to restart an offense that has mixed solid performances with dismal failures.
Control Cam Newton
Newton is having a season reminiscent of his brilliant 2015 campaign. His 65 percent completion percentage is the highest of his career. His 93.2 passer rating is second only to his 99.4 two years ago. Stopping him is not easy. In his past two games against the Redskins (2015 and 2016) he has thrown for 546 yards and seven touchdowns with no interceptions.
Newton will turn the ball over at times. Though he has cut down on his fumbles and has thrown just three interceptions, he still makes occasional mistakes. Since the Panthers have so many offense weapons, Washington will have to force Newton into doing...
