Steve Sarkisian has been fired. The Atlanta Falcons need to replace him with the right coach or they will tread water on offense yet again. There are some great candidates out there for the offensive coordinator role, and some awful ones. Here, we’ll run down what should be the top five candidates for the opening.
A member of the Shanahan coaching tree, Rick Dennison is more of an offensive line coach than anything else. However, the Falcons would give him talent he hasn’t ever had at wide receiver and quarterback. The former Broncos, Texans and Bills OC could come right in and help shape the run game back into the image Dan Quinn wants.
Dennison also understands how to build his concepts off of each other, which was so crucial for Atlanta’s offense in 2016. The problem with Dennison is his true trade is the offensive line. The play-calling can be a bit bland with him at times and may not be the best fit overall for the Falcons’ explosive talent.
