James Bradberry is not a superstar shut-down kind of cornerback, but the Panthers don’t need him to be. Carolina’s defense under head coach Ron Rivera has always relied on the front seven to get pressure, making corners less important to the scheme in general – part of the reason why the Panthers didn’t pay Josh Norman.
One thing no corner can afford to do though is get beat over the top, and Bradberry excels in this area.
According to Pro Football Focus, since Bradberry was drafted a couple years ago he’s done a solid job covering go routes.
Since being drafted in 2016, cornerback James Bradberry has been thrown at 18 times on go routes. On those routes, he has allowed just one catch, and he’s also tallied three pass breakups.
Expect Bradberry, Donte Jackson and Captain Munnerlyn to be put to the test this week by a talented Washington wide receiver corps.
