After struggling the past two seasons, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers finally decided to call it quits with lead running back Doug Martin and will now look for the right person to notch Martin’s job in 2018. One player who is certainly a strong candidate is Peyton Barber.
Barber had a pretty solid season for the Bucs in 2017 and thrived in Martin’s absence. He finished the season with 108 carries for 428 rushing yards and three touchdowns and was much more productive than Martin. Overall, he has accumulated 163 rushing yards for 646 yards and four touchdowns throughout his career while proving that his future in the league is incredibly bright.
So considering Barber’s progression, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see Barber receive a promotion this offseason if training camp goes well for him and he proves that he can thrive as a starter. In fact, Bucs coach Dirk Koetter recently weighed in on the matter at the NFL Combine and Tampa Bay’s head ball coach made it clear that Barber is a viable option and strong candidate to solidify a starting...
