Panthers OC Norv Turner talks about shortening play calls

Panthers offensive coordinator Norv Turner is in the spotlight this week as he faces the team he used to coach, the Redskins.

One thing Turner is focusing on is cutting down on the verbiage so that quarterback Cam Newton and the rest of the offense can eliminate some of the communication errors that have happened over the last few weeks.

Turner says he’s shortened some play calls and he thinks it’s helping, per the team website.

There is a fine line between making sure everyone knows what to do and making the calls as short as possible. . . When you have a lot of rotating players like we’ve had, sometimes you add another word to confirm the guy knows what he’s doing. But we’ve shortened a lot of our calls and I think it’s helped everyone.

The Panthers have won their last five meetings with Washington going back to the 2009 season.
