Our friends over at Draft Wire are helping break up the training camp doldrums with a new two-round mock draft for 2019. We dug into the two picks for the Pittsburgh Steelers and wanted to break them down a little.
In the first round, Draft Wire has the Steelers taking Alabama running back Damien Harris with the No. 29 overall pick. Harris is a squatty, powerful runner that looks for contact at times. He’s not a complete back by any means and while he could be a workhorse runner isn’t going to provide the threat as a pass receiver that Le’Veon Bell did.
Moving to the second round, the Steelers go back to Alabama this time for some help on defense. They have the Steelers drafting outside linebacker Christian Miller. There’s no doubt outside linebacker could be a need at the end of this season. Pittsburgh is banking on Bud Dupree finally living up to the potential he came to the team with.
But putting Miller in the second round is counting on a huge move in production by him. That’s not to say he can’t do it but right now Miller might be the third-best linebacker on his own team. If we are sticking with running back and linebacker, I’d rather see Pittsburgh try and land Alabama edge Anfernee Jennings in the first and see if Harris lasts to the second...
