Best friends, reunited.
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick has begun his post-combine scouting tour with Alabama’s pro day. During the workouts, Belichick grabbed Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban for a private conversation on the field. Here’s a look.
Saban was Belichick’s defensive coordinator when he was head coach of the Browns. They have since maintained a strong relationship.
“Nick’s in a class by himself and I think that’s pretty well [documented]. I’ve talked about that a lot,” Belichick said on Jan. 4 before Saban went to his sixth national title game.
And Belichick seems to appreciate the prospects who have come out of Saban’s system. Most recently, he drafted cornerback Cyrus Jones in the second round and linebacker Dont’a Hightower in the first round. Belichick has also drafted Alabama products in defensive lineman Brandon Deaderick and linebacker Xzavier Dickson in the seventh round.
As usual, this year’s draft is packed with talent from Alabama, including potential first-rounders in defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick, receiver Calvin Ridley, linebacker Rashaan Evans, safety Ronnie Harrison and defensive lineman Da’Ron Payne.
