Now, the Pistons may hire another person linked to the Heat.
The Heat have granted Shane Battier, who currently serves as Miami’s director of basketball development and analytics, permission to speak with the Pistons about a front-office job.
Battier, who won two championships as a player with the Heat in 2012 and 2013, is a Michigan native and attended Detroit County Day School for high school. Going back to serve in a front office role with the Pistons would represent a homecoming of sorts for Battier.
On the flip side, the Pistons face a bleak future. Battier may be wary of entering into a situation that would be difficult to improve. Blake Griffin is owed about $103 million over the next three years, including a $38 million player option for the 2021-22 season. The Pistons also have money tied up in Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson.
