The New York Giants entered the offseason knowing they had several areas of need, one of which is at running back, where they not only lack depth, but don’t have a true No. 1.
For that reason, many expect the Giants to select Penn State running back Saquon Barkley at No. 2 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft should he be available. But ultimately, Big Blue may need more than one new back.
With Orleans Darkwa an impending free agent who is expected to draw substantial interest, the Giants are testing the free agent waters. And one player they’re honing in on appears to be Dion Lewis (New England Patriots), Pro Football Talk reports.
One of the top running backs in the 2018 free-agent class has plenty of potential options. Currently, Patriots running back Dion Lewis has varying levels of interest from his current team, and from seven others.
The currently interested teams are the Dolphins, Jets, Giants, Titans, Texans, Colts, 49ers, per a source with knowledge of the situation.
Lewis, a fifth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2011 NFL Draft, had a career year in 2017, gaining 896 yards on 186 carries (5.0 yards per carry) and six touchdowns. He also added 32 receptions for 214 yards and three touchdowns, all while the Patriots employed a running...
