It’s Sunday, after all. The Cowboys and Giants square off to try and get their first win of the season. There’s a lot to discuss about this game, so we’ve put together everything a Dallas fan needs to be fully prepared for game time.
There have been 28 teams since 1990 to start 0-2 and still make the playoffs. It isn’t unheard of, it’s just unlikely.
Consider we’re talking about 27 years of data with 12 playoff teams a year. That’s 28 out of 324 playoff teams. There were 231 teams which started out 0-2 over that 27-year stretch; only 12 percent of those made the playoffs.
Odds get even steeper when using Five-Thirty-Eight’s 20-year window from 1995 through 2005. Below is the chart of playoff odds for every single record combination (not considering ties). 1-1 teams have a 41 percent chance of making the dance. 0-2 teams just 10 percent.
