The Atlanta Falcons are still in need of a safety and the NFL trade deadline is coming up soon. Teams have until Oct. 30 to work out a deal.
Today, Bill Barnwell at ESPN came up with 11 proposed trades around the league, including one for Atlanta. Barnwell suggests the Falcons trade a sixth-round pick in 2019 to the Oakland Raiders for safety Karl Joseph.
Joseph looked like a game-changing playmaker before struggling to find his way in Oakland, and at 25, he still should have time to develop. . . his athleticism would make the former 14th overall pick a high-upside solution in the second half of the season for a flailing Falcons defense.
Signing Eric Reid would have made more sense, but that ship has sailed and he’s now suiting up for the division rival Carolina Panthers.
Joseph would help the back end of Atlanta’s defense. If they’re going to pull off a trade, though, the Falcons should be looking to boost their pass rush. The Philadelphia Eagles are flush with high-quality edge rushers and also happen to be looking for a running back with Jay Ajayi now out for the season.
