The simple answer is no. The Washington Redskins were not ranked as one of the most iconic 25 uniforms in sports history, according to USA Today’s Touchdown Wire.
Should they be? Probably not.
Earlier in the week, TouchdownWire ranked the best NFL helmets in the game, and the Redskins started off the list coming in at the very bottom, No. 32. Some think that the old school Washington helmets that featured an arrow on the side — rather than a Native American — were much cooler (and probably less problematic if we’re being honest.)
If you were to thumb through the Washington Redskin history books, you’d see that the uniforms haven’t really changed since the early 1980s, when the burgundy and gold really took form in sleeve stripes and numbers that pop.
Over the years, the stripes got smaller and the jerseys got tighter, but not much else changed. It would be hard to rank Washington’s kits in the top half of the NFL, let alone in the top 25 jerseys in sports history.
