Dan Quinn breaks down his ideal tackling technique

Falcons coach Dan Quinn recently did an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Andy Benoit in which he explained why he believes what is known as the roll tackle is the safest and most effective method.

Quinn is someone who hates bad technique, the kind that often times result in players being seriously injured.

Here, he shares a detailed breakdown of the importance of roll tackling, which can be explained as striking in the legal zone, grabbing and using the offensive player’s leverage to spin them down to the ground.

It’s all about owning your leverage. . . If you’re profile tackling, coming straight downhill and filling, which is usually in the A and B gaps, you need to pick a side. You never give a ballcarrier a two-way go.

There are a few more interesting tidbits in Benoit’s article about Quinn’s focus on roll tackles. You can read the full SI piece here.
