Dallas Mavericks news: First practice back from China and more

The Dallas Mavericks are back in Texas.  They got right to practice in preparation for their final preseason game and opening night.

The Dallas Mavericks made the long journey back from China and went right to business.  It was their first practice in Dallas since departing and that brought plenty of notable news items.

Coach Rick Carlisle discussed the trip, their preseason so far, and even the play of his young building blocks.  You can see the interview here courtesy of Dwain Price.

Carlisle also gave fans hope about Harrison Barnes playing on opening night.  He has a hamstring injury that sidelined him for all three preseason games so far.  Barnes was ruled out for the fourth, but Carlisle discussed how he could return depending on his practice availability leading up to opening night.  If Barnes is not ready on Oct. 17, it sounds like he won’t miss too much action.

Barnes had a night on Oct. 10.  He paid for some local youths to see a movie.  It should give fans just another reason to root for Barnes to make a speedy recovery and suit up on opening night in Phoenix.  He brings another dimension to the Mavs offense.  Barnes is also their second-best wing defender.  The Mavs need him healthy to compete in the stacked Western...
