Though the numbers aren’t official until the league announces it at the start of the new league year on March 14, the Indianapolis Colts will be among the teams with the most salary cap space entering free agency.
The salary cap for the NFL in 2018 will be $177.2 million, per ESPN’s Field Yates, and with the Colts having very little contract commitments, they will have boatloads of money in salary cap space.
The numbers aren’t official yet as the NFL hasn’t announced the salary cap but the Colts are projected to have $73.8 million in cap space when free agency starts, per Spotrac.
This is subject to change as the Colts could make some cuts to add salary cap space but unless that happens, this is the projected total.
Despite having so much money to spend, the Colts actually will be very selective in free agency as general manager Chris Ballard prefers to plug some holes before heavily developing the roster through the draft.
