Denver Broncos first-year quarterback Chad Kelly clearly outplayed Paxton Lynch in the team’s preseason opener, but coach Vance Joseph was noncommittal after the game when asked if Kelly earned a shot to get reps with the second-team offense this week.
When asked after the game if he felt he should be the No. 2 quarterback, Kelly had the perfect response.
“I can’t look at it that way,” Kelly said Saturday evening. “I have to make sure I keep my nose in the playbook and keep studying. I should have studied more on the main zone reads, otherwise, I wouldn’t have thrown a pick.”
Not only is Kelly not getting ahead of himself, he knows what he needs to work on to get better. That’s what Denver needs from a backup QB.
