This past Thursday night game was a doozy. After coming out firing, scoring 28 points in the first half against a very good Ravens defense (albeit one playing without their 2 best players), the Bengals showed that they belonged. Although the game ended in a too-close-for-comfort 34-23, the Bengals defense came up big at the most opportune times.
Not only does this show a team that is solid in all 3 phases of the game, it also shows they’re mentally tougher than last season. This is a game that could have spiraled out of control in years past, but Andy Dalton and Co. came through after playing like crap through most of the second half. And the defense didn’t crumble. In fact, after letting some plays get away from them, Carlos Dunlap came up with a HUGE swat that ended up in the arms of Shawn Williams, and not long after that, Williams made the game-ending strip-sack.
In a game like this, some players come up with huge plays. And some don’t do much of anything. Some come out swinging, catching 3 TD passes on their first 3 touches. Some make one catch for 8 yards. Some come back from injury mid-game to help close it out. And others . . . well, you’ll...
