On Monday we saw Eagles coach Doug Pederson take the podium as the winning head coach in his post-Super Bowl press conference. At his own post-Super Bowl presser in 2017, Patriots coach Bill Belichick shared a thought with reporters that’s often overshadowed by a team’s postseason success.
“As great as today is, in all honesty, we’re five weeks behind 30 teams in the league in preparing for the 2017 season.”
It was a revealing admission by a front office executive who understands all too well the amount of work that goes into building a championship caliber roster. While New England returned to the Super Bowl this year, Belichick made a number of questionable personnel moves last offseason which cost his team draft picks and money, while yielding few positive results.
Meanwhile, the Eagles front office has already had one eye trained on 2018 for months, preparing for the scouting combine, free agency, and the NFL Draft.
