Between 2013 and 2014, Denver Broncos tight end Julius Thomas caught 108 passes. Then he moved on as a free agent and the team received a decent performance from Owen Daniels in 2015. However, over the course of the last two seasons, every tight end on the team has combined for just 103 total receptions.
The Broncos need a receiving tight end. They have needed a receiving tight end. Virgil Green and Jeff Heuerman aren’t going to be that guy. Maybe Jake Butt will, but that remains to be seen.
Earlier, I talked about how the team should look into signing unrestricted free agent Jimmy Graham. But perhaps a more sensible option would be to make a trade with the Detroit Lions to acquire Eric Ebron.
Ebron’s name has been mentioned in trade talks dating all the way back to last offseason and it seems like the right deal would easily get him out of Detroit.
