High franchise tag price on WRs could help Ravens in free agency

The Baltimore Ravens will be looking for a wide receiver this offseason, make no bones about it. Whether it comes solely from the 2018 NFL draft, or they make a splash in free agency, the Ravens’ eyes will be focused on finding a pass catcher to boost up the offense.

If Baltimore does look to make a big purchase in free agency, the high price of the franchise tag for wide receivers could open some doors.

The expected top target this free agency is Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry. The sure-handed possession receiver is on nearly every team’s list that has a need at wide receiver, which should see his contract price shoot through the roof. However, there’s always the chance the Dolphins could try and avoid that whole mess by giving Landry the franchise tag.

Then again, at and expected $16.465 million for one year on the franchise tag, Miami might reconsider that notion. Landry is likely to get around $14 million-per-season in free agency and that could be back-loaded to save money up front for whoever signs him.
