Phil Mickelson attempts wild recovery shot through a metal fence

Brendan Porath, SB Nation

We've seen Phil Mickelson play shots from everywhere on and off the course. The man refuses to take a drop unless it's absolutely necessary, which is how you end up hitting balls off the carpet of a beer tent and back into play.

Friday's lie at the Farmers Insurance Open, however, was a new one for Phil. His ball landed up against a fence, which was considered a permanent obstruction, not a temporary immovable obstruction from which he could get relief. But part of his ball was still considered in play so he had the opportunity to at least put a swing on it.
