Ga. Southern beats App. State on improbable, buzzer-beating four-point play

Troy Machir, Sporting News

On Monday night, Duke lost its fouth game in five attempts, something the team had not done in over 25 years. That, however, was not the most improbably feat to take place.

In the snowy mountains of Boone, N.C., Georgia Southern scored a 101-100 victory over Appalachian State thanks to the most improbable finish of the season.

With just under five seconds to play, Appalachian State's Jacob Lawson hit a pair of free throws to put the Mountaineers ahead 100-97. Georgia Southern's Tookie Brown got the inbounds pass and found Mike Hughes, who proceeded to throw up a desperation 3-pointer.

And that's when things got weird.
