Why Tom Brady will never surpass Joe Montana as the league’s greatest QB

Tom Brady won’t be a participant in Super Bowl 50 after losing to Peyton Manning and the Broncos in the AFC Championship. No stories about his childhood in nearby San Mateo and no comparisons to Brady’s idol, Joe Montana.

Discussions started to percolate last week whether Brady might be the best quarterback of all-time, surpassing Montana.

Some might elevate Brady over Montana anyway. Brady has equaled Montana in Super Bowl wins with four, surpassed him in Super Bowl appearances with seven, and has a remarkable 22-9 record in the playoffs.

Montana finished with 16-7 playoff record.

Also, Montana played in a non-capped era, and then owner Eddie DeBartolo splurged on free agents to provide everything Montana and coaches Bill Walsh and George Seifert wanted.
