The Carolina Panthers are a buzz saw right now, reminiscent of the 2007 and 2011 New York Giants teams than ran through the playoffs like shit through a tin horn. A dominating pass rush, a stable of middling running backs combined with a potent passing attack has got them playing in Super Bowl 50 as four-point favorites against a legend on an iconic NFL franchise. The biggest difference between those Giants teams and this year’s Panthers squad, of course, is that their quarterback isn’t the hot-and-cold Eli Manning, but 2015’s most likely candidate for Most Valuable Player.
A quarterback selected first-overall hasn’t paid off like this since, well, Eli Manning won Super Bowl XLII MVP. Suffice it to say Cam Newton was a good investment.
Josh Freeman, on the other hand, not so much. Dude’s basically out of football.
