Kathryn Smith became a historic figure on Wednesday when was promoted to special teams quality control coach by the Bills. That made her the first full-time female coach in pro football history.
Smith's elevation comes just months after Jen Welter spent the preseason with the Cardinals as a coaching intern working with the team's linebackers.
So, just who is Kathryn Smith? Five things to know:
1. Smith followed coach Rex Ryan to Buffalo from the Jets, for whom Smith worked 12 years. Smith worked her way up the ranks. She worked as an administrative assistant under Ryan for the past two seasons and was a player personnel assistant with the Jets prior to that.
2. To quote Drake, Smith started from the bottom now she's here. According to Pro Football Talk , she got her start in the NFL as an intern. She spent time as both a game day/special events intern and a college scouting intern.
