Full Texans mock draft 3.0: free agency frenzy edition
/ Texans

By Jeff Risdon

This week’s full Texans Wire mock draft added in the element of free agency. Thanks to the simulator at Fanspeak, this one combines some key free agent signings with Houston’s diminished draft stock to make a major dent on the Texans roster, both now and in the years to come.

First, I re-signed the following players. It did take some haggling to bring back Ellington, but he’s worth the investment. In order to free up more cap room, injured offensive tackle Derek Newton was cut.

Note that Johnathan Joseph is not among the returning Texans. I chased after bigger fish in free agency…and landed them. Three newcomers take over at cornerback, which frees up Kareem Jackson to move to primarily playing safety. I also bolstered the offensive line with two new starters.

Those moves before the draft reduced the dire need at several positions and allowed for more freedom to choose the best available talents with the picks.
