By now, the news has likely traveled around the world twice that Josh McDaniels burned the Indianapolis Colts by backing out of a deal to be their next head coach on the same day he agreed to take on said job.
While McDaniels was slated to be the next leader of the locker room, the Colts were also working on getting his assistant coaches on board as quickly as possible.
Those include Matt Eberflus as defensive coordinator, Mike Phair as the defensive line coach and Dave DeGuglielmo as the offensive line coach.
The Colts will reportedly honor those contracts and keep them on the staff in those roles, despite the fact that they will be coaching under someone not named McDaniels.
It isn’t clear whether McDaniels reached out to these assistant coaches before deciding to stay with the New England Patriots as there have been conflicting reports.
ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported that she talked to members of the new coaching staff and they had not been informed by McDaniels about his change of heart.
