Now that Josh McDaniels has surprisingly withdrawn from the Indianapolis Colts head coach position, GM Chris Ballard is back to square one.
Former Kansas City Chiefs exec and current Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard is back at the drawing board at the most inconvenient time. This deep into the offseason for a team that never made the playoffs, Ballard is still searching for his head coach after New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels decided to remain in his current post instead of taking over the new job.
McDaniels has been tagged as the favorite for some time in Indy, and his hiring was long considered a formality even though it could not announced as official until after the Patriots’ playoff run was over. Unfortunately, McDaniels ended up getting cold feet for one reason or another, which leaves Ballard in the lurch as he seeks to replace longtime head coach Chuck Pagano, who was let go in January.
The conversation will now turn to a few head coaching hopefuls who have already interviewed for the job, including Baylor head football coach Matt Rhule and Kris Richard, defensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks. In addition, Kansas City Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub has also been circulated as a name to watch when rumors first surfaced over the last few days that McDaniels was having second...
